Memory Maker: Let's Capture the Magic!

For those of you heading to Walt Disney World, capturing the magic is an absolute must. As a fairly pricey vacation, you're going to want great pictures to remember it by. That's where PhotoPass and Memory Maker come in.

What is PhotoPass?

There are Disney photographers crawling all over the various parks in Walt Disney World. They are there to capture the magic for you and your family. This includes some dining locations, rides, character meet and greets, and more! These photos are stored on your MagicBand or card and are uploaded to your Disney account from there. If you ask nicely, a lot of photographers will even take pictures with your phone!

The photographer took this picture with my phone. Next time, I'm getting the professional photos!

What is Memory Maker?

Memory Maker is your ability to download the professional photos an unlimited amount of times rather than purchase each digital picture separately. If you want a photo at some of those iconic moments on rides (such as the big drop on Splash Mountain and while you're being jolted around on Tower of Terror), you're going to want to purchase a Memory Maker. It's definitely safer than trying to capture a picture on your phone and having it fly into Doo Dah Landing. Short of landing on the riverboat or a recycled America Sings character, that thing is a goner.

Once you have your Memory Maker and activate it by linking at least one PhotoPass photo to your account, you have 30 days to capture the magic. Photos will expire 45 days after they are taken. If you purchase an expiration extension, they will expire 60 days after the photo is taken.

How much does the Memory Maker cost?

It's going to cost you $199 USD for a Memory Maker. That's a lot, you say? If you plan ahead, you can get it for $169 USD. Note that any photos taken within three days of the Memory Maker purchase day will need to be purchased separately if you got the advance pricing, so I advise purchasing it at least four days in advance of your trip. If you pay full price you can begin using it immediately.

Can I link Memory Maker to multiple accounts?

No, Memory Maker can only be linked to one account. However, any family or friends who share media with the account holder can have their PhotoPass photos downloaded as well.

What about Annual Pass Holders?

Individuals with a Gold, Platinum, or Platinum Plus Annual Pass or a Premier Annual Passport will have a Qualifying Annual Pass Disney PhotoPass benefit included with their pass. Pictures will expire 365 days from the date they are taken.

What is One Day Memory Maker?

It's exactly what it sounds like - a one day Memory Maker! For PhotoPass photos taken over one day only, you can download the magic. The one day Memory Maker photos will be available for download up to 45 days after the pictures are taken. This add-on is available for $69 USD once you've linked one photo using PhotoPass for the day you wish to use it for.

How do I get a Memory Maker?

The easiest way is going to be to go on the DisneyWorld website onto MyDisneyExperience. Click on the cart. You will then have the option to choose the Memory Maker.

You will then be able to choose either advance or regular Memory Maker. Since you will be logged into your account, Memory Maker will be added automatically once you've purchased it. It will show up under My Reservations and Tickets on your online MyDisneyExperience account. For one day memory makers, choose PhotoPass on the app, pick a photo, and then select the One Day Memory Maker option. Voila.

Is Memory Maker Worth It?

In my opinion, absolutely! You get access to photos you otherwise won't have, access to better quality photos, and access to subject matter experts who take photos for a living. If you want good quality memories of your trip, this is how you get them. I intend to use my Memory Maker to the fullest on our upcoming trip!
