As I mentioned in my previous posting regarding staying on or off-resort, MagicBands are going to be your little slice of magic in more than one way when you're at Disney World. I'll be discussing what you can do with your MagicBand in this post.

So, what exactly is a MagicBand?

magic, magic band, wristlet, money, key, vacation, Disney

In essence, a MagicBand is a bracelet that allows you access to the parks and to your hotel room (if you are staying on-resort). You also have the option to pay for purchases in the parks by using the MagicBand in combination with a PIN; this allows the band to charge your purchases back to your room. No, you can't use it for purchases if you are not staying on resort. I learned this the hard way by trying it and holding up the line-up at Pinocchio Village Haus. Just a word of warning: if you are told to have a magical day, that essentially means f*** you. Let me say that I definitely was told to have a magical day after that experience!

Now that you know what it does, how do you get one?

Well, this depends. If you're staying on-resort, you will get one provided to you. If in the U.S., they will be mailed to you prior to your stay. Sadly as a Canadian, I will have to get mine at the front desk. However, there is another way to get a MagicBand. You can purchase one from Disney directly* or through a re-seller (Genie is always a good time.) I've provided you a link below in case you want to get your Agrabah on!*

The biggest benefit of purchasing a MagicBand is that you can use it for your park ticket regardless of whether you are staying on or off-resort. I found this super convenient as the alternative is carrying around a little card, and come on... you don't want to be THAT guy. Purchasing also allows you to get customized bands rather than the Plain Jane ones you will get as a default if you're staying at a Disney-owned property.

Linking your MagicBand to your park tickets is a snap. I'll outline the process for you below:
  1. Download the MyDisneyExperience app to your smartphone or tablet (preferably both if you're a hardcore Disney addict).
  2. Link your tickets by going to Tickets and Passes and clicking Link Tickets and Passes.
  3. Add your ticket ID # - there is a very handy explanation on the app as to where to find this as well as your MagicBand code.
  4. Now you're ready to link your MagicBand. Go to My Account and click MagicBands and Cards.
  5. Click Link a MagicBand or Card and type in the ID #.
  6. Create a PIN for your card if you will be on resort. Also link your credit card if you wish to make purchases with the MagicBand. Payment method can also be added under My Account.
  7. You're done! Enjoy the effortlessness and awesomeness of your band!

Happy wearing, and stay awesome!
