Restaurant Review: Morimoto Asia

In 2016, we heard about Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto's restaurant in Disney Springs: Morimoto Asia. We originally had a dining reservation on our Disneymoon, but passed up on it in favour of heading back to Teppan Edo. This time around, we were ready to see what all the hype was about.

At a first glance, this place was both elegant and high-class. The building was very well-kept, with tasteful decorations all around.

Chris was ready to dive in to this culinary experience. We ordered three items: the Spider Roll, Morimoto Ribs, and the Kakuni Pork Bao.

First up, we tried the Spider Roll. Chris's exact words were, “Wow, that is a magnificent roll!” I think that pretty much says it all. Not only was the roll massive, but it had an intense saltiness that was somehow done in just the right way. Not being much of an asparagus lover, Chris was apprehensive about it being in our roll. Luckily, it blended right in. The soft shell crab was coated in a nice tempura batter that melted in our mouths like butter.

On to the ribs. We received three ribs which were, “Probably the best ribs of my life,” according to Chris. The smell and taste of honey hit us right away. I was able to eat mine with chop sticks (since they were sticky!) as the meat fell right off the bone. These ribs were so tender and flavourful that they would make a carnivore blush.

Lastly, we tried the Pork Bao. Although the bao dough was tender and delicious and paired beautifully with the fresh veggies within, much like California Grill, the pork was about 85% fat. This could be a cultural thing, but was not appetizing to us and our North American palettes.

Other than the fatty pork, everything was stellar. We had good service and received more water every time our glass was empty without exception. Due to the customer service and flavourful dshes, this restaurant rates at 4.75/5 mouse ears.
