In the Parks Series - Seven Dwarves Mine Train: Heigh Ho, Up the Mountain We Go!

"Heigh ho!"

You most likely recognize this iconic (albeit very short) phrase from Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (1937). It also happens to be in a scene from one of the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World's most popular rides, Seven Dwarves Mine Train.

There are two photo ops with this ride: a picture and a video of you on the ride!

History of the Ride

For a little history on this ride, we need to go back to 2010. Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom underwent a major expansion for four years, finally finishing in 2014. Seven Dwarves Mine Train had a soft opening of May 21, 2014, fully opening a week later on May 28, 2014. This ride can also be found in Shanghai Disneyland Park, where it opened in 2016 (an opening-day ride for this new park).

Snow White's Scary Adventures was removed in 2012 from Fantasyland to make room for the Princess Fairytale Hall. As we've seen before, it was great opportunity for Disney to recycle the heck out of these characters! That's right. Many of the animatronics you see in Seven Dwarves Mine Train's final scene are repurposed Snow White's Scary Adventures animatronics. The more technologically advanced animatronics are inside the mountain.

There are two on-ride cameras featured in this ride, just ripe with PhotoPass and Memory Maker opportunities. Below, I'll share a video of what we received as an experience of our ride. Check it out:

I absolutely loved receiving this with my Memory Maker, and it helps me re-live my trip as I plan for the next one.

Since its opening, this ride has historically long wait times. 105 minutes to wait in line is not uncommon for this ride, even four years later.

Let's Talk About the Ride!

*Spoiler Alert*

Having most likely anticipated its popularity, Seven Dwarves Mine Train has an interactive queue. You can sort gems, spin gems to reflect the Dwarves on the ceiling, and wash gems with 12 musical spigots. The spigots each represent one note on the chromatic scale. Kids were eating it up, so apparently the queue is a perfect distraction from waiting in the Florida heat.

Once you make it to the front of the line, it's time to ride the mine train! You careen in and out of the mountain. With the twists and turns involved, it is a thrilling, but thankfully not overly exhilarating, ride. Of the two train rides you can take (excluding the actual railway of course - I'm discussing just actual rides here!), I would argue that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is the more intense of the two.

You ascend up the mountain, make a few more twists and turns, then it's time for you to say, "Heigh ho!" along with the rest of the crew!

Inside the mountain is where you first encounter the Seven Dwarves, hustling hard. These animatronics are some of the most newly designed, with Doc's range of motion and two-degree range-of-freedom wrist movement being the most impressive of the bunch. These animatronics' facial movements are similar to the ones you see in Frozen Ever After, located in the Norway Pavilion in Epcot. Both appear to use some sort of screen technology, making the faces appear more life-like and animated.

Once you begin your ascent up the inside of the mountain, the Dwarves start to sing Heigh Ho. After you pass Doc, you can see a shadow of the Dwarves walking alongside the mine train.

Your mine train goes careening down the mountain. After a few more twists and turns, you end up going past the Dwarves' cabin. Inside, they are yodelling, while Dopey and Snow White dance. Outside, the Witch is peeking in and cackling. Her cackle is just so ridiculously whimsical, it basically makes my day whenever I'm on the ride.

I just love her. You go, girl! You MESS THOSE DWARVES UP :)

The ride ends with you heading back into the loading and unloading zone in the mountain. Guess the Witch will have to pray on someone else today...

Let's Discuss Merch!

There is A TON of official Disney merch you can get if you're looking to get your Seven Dwarves fix. There's a pretty cool figurine of the Dwarves walking along a log, Chibi plushes of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Grumpy shirts, and even an apple dress! I personally got myself this Snow White mug!

Additionally, there's tons of unofficial wares as well. There's some super cute Dwarves ears, shirts, aprons, you name it. There's even ladie's undies, though I'm not sure I want Doc quite THAT close to me. Just saying.
